Páirc Mhaigh Cuilinn
Humble Beginnings
Before the establishment of Páirc Mhaigh Cuilinn, our teams navigated a nomadic existence, playing on various fields around the parish – Melia’s field, Knockshanbally, John McDonagh’s field, Leagaun, Donoghue’s field, Clooniffe, and Vaughan’s field, among others. But in 1967, the dream of a permanent home took root in “The Rocks field” in Ballydotia. Local families generously offered this commonage to Coiste Páirc Mháigh Cuilinn, an act commemorated by a plaque on the clubhouse.
The Birth of Páirc Mhaigh Cuilinn
By 1972, Páirc Mhaigh Cuilinn was officially opened, with the first match played in July between Moycullen Hurlers and Fr. Tom’s, Boston. The development continued with dressing rooms and a clubhouse added in 1980.
Expansion and Modernization
The club’s growth necessitated expansion. In 1990, the main pitch was reoriented, and a second pitch was added. The success of the Club Lotto led to the construction of a 300-seat stand in 1996.
The 21st century brought further enhancements. Moycullen Handball Club joined the Páirc Mhaigh Cuilinn family, building a modern indoor facility. An all-weather pitch and a practice wall were added, and a children’s playground and paved access made the grounds more family-friendly.
A Community-Built Clubhouse
In 2013, the GAA clubs in Moycullen embarked on an ambitious project to upgrade the clubhouse. The vision was to create a multi-purpose space that would benefit all clubs. A new training room was built, four fully serviced dressing rooms were added, a dedicated referee’s room was included, and the catering facilities were upgraded. A new building was constructed to house the boiler room, and the entire car park was tarmacked.
This project was a testament to community spirit. Over a year and a half, countless volunteers dedicated their time and skills to build, wire, plumb, paint, and fit out the new facilities. Their efforts transformed the clubhouse into a modern and functional space.
Ongoing Development
The clubs are committed to the ongoing development of Páirc Mhaigh Cuilinn. The Online Lotto generates funds that are used to support facility improvements and maintenance. You can support this by playing the online lotto at www.moycullenlotto.ie.
