James McLaughlin Makes Preseason Start for Galway

Maigh Cuilinn GAA is delighted to see senior player James McLaughlin start for Galway in their recent preseason challenge game against Kildare in Newbridge. This is another step forward in James’s already impressive footballing career, which includes representing both club and county with distinction.

McLaughlin first donned the maroon jersey back in January 2022, coming off the bench against Mayo in the FBD League semi-final. He later made his National Football League debut against Roscommon at Dr. Hyde Park.

James’s underage career was equally impressive. He was a key player for the Galway U-20 team that won the All-Ireland title in December 2020, defeating Dublin in the final. He also played a significant role in their Connacht title win earlier that year. In 2021, he continued to represent Galway at the U-20 level, narrowly missing out on another Connacht final appearance.

At the club level, James has been a vital part of the Maigh Cuilinn senior team since making his championship debut in 2020. He was instrumental in our historic Frank Fox Cup triumph that year, forming a formidable midfield partnership with Tom Clarke and contributing significantly to our first-ever Galway SFC title. James is part of a proud tradition of excellent midfielders at the club, following in the footsteps of players like Mark Lydon and Tom Clarke.

James’s talent and dedication were also evident during his time with the Galway Minor Footballers. In 2019, he played a crucial role in their journey to the All-Ireland MFC final, where they narrowly lost to Cork after extra time. His performances that season earned him a well-deserved Minor All-Star award alongside his teammate Daniel Cox.

We are incredibly proud of James’s achievements and wish him all the best for the upcoming season with Galway. He is a shining example of the dedication and commitment required to succeed at the highest level, and a true inspiration to our young players.
