Profile

A celebrated figure in Galway football, Paul Clancy is a two-time All-Ireland Senior Football Championship winner with the county, having lifted the Sam Maguire in 1998 and 2001.

He has played a pivotal leadership role at his home club, Maigh Cuilinn, serving as Club Chairman from 2019 to 2023. This period was a historic era for the club, highlighted by their first-ever Galway Senior Championship title in 2020, followed by a double of the County and Connacht Senior Championship titles in 2022.

On the field, Clancy was still playing when Maigh Cuilinn achieved All-Ireland Intermediate glory in 2008, an occasion he cherishes as one of his greatest club days, with his brother Gearoid captaining the winning side.

Clancy also brings a significant coaching and management pedigree, including:

  • Maigh Cuilinn Management: Managed his native club a number of years ago, bringing in the late Don Connellan (his brother-in-law) as his selector, who later became the Senior team’s highly successful manager.
  • Galway: A selector with the Senior team under Alan Mulholland, and previously involved with the All-Ireland-winning U21 team.
  • Other Inter-County: Served as a selector with the Laois Senior team under Justin McNulty.
  • Other Roles: Managed Garrycastle (Westmeath), and was involved with the DIT Sigerson Cup side.
