David Cox RIP

It is with great sadness and a heavy heart that we share the news that our great friend and club stalwart Dave Cox passed away earlier today.

Fondly known as “Coxy” he held many roles over the years – Juvenile Chairman, fundraiser, manager of various teams and he organized almost every event and was on nearly every committee we have – he simply never stopped.

The Go-To Guy

Dave was well known as the go-to guy, the person who would get something – anything – done. No fuss, no fanfare, and no chance that he would accept any praise from anyone, it just wasn’t his way.

Originally from the Claddagh, Dave quickly made the community and the club his home and was very proud of all things Moycullen.

His reach and influence extended way beyond the football club. Well known for organizing and supporting events to better the community – Sleep outs, St Patricks Day Parades, Fundraisers for local charities, events & schools and a remarkable ability to convince people that jumping into a freezing Galway Bay for a Christmas Day swim was a good idea.

A Proud Father

Dave was especially proud when his sons, Jamie, Daniel and Charlie represented both Club and County with distinction on the football fields. It was fitting that one of his last games was to watch Charlie help Galway win the All Ireland minor final 2 weeks ago. A very proud day for him to be with Phil, Katie, Robyn, Jamie & Daniel to see the youngest of the family on his big day.

A modest man with a great heart and a side of mischief – he left a legacy behind that will be forever remembered by us all.

Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife Phil, daughters Katie & Robyn and sons Jamie, Daniel and Charlie.

Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam uasal.
