Feile Success for U15

Our Maigh Cuilinn U15s have certainly had an eventful and memorable season so far, marked by impressive league form and a thrilling, albeit bittersweet, Féile journey.

The squad has hit the ground running in the U15 Division 1 League, securing three fantastic wins against strong opposition in Oranmore, Claregalway, and Tuam Stars.

Féile Journey: Heart, Hard Work, and History Made

The Féile competition proved to be a true test of character for our U15s. Their group stage began with a narrow loss on the first evening, but the squad responded magnificently in their subsequent two group games. Displaying immense resolve, they secured crucial wins against Corofin and Claregalway, earning their spot in the semi-finals later that same day.

In the semi-final, they faced Monivea-Abbey, widely considered favourites for the title. However, the Maigh Cuilinn U15s showed incredible heart, hard work, and togetherness, taking the game to their opponents right from the whistle and playing with unwavering determination until the very end.

The county final took place the following day in Pearse Stadium against Salthill-Knocknacarra. It was a tight, nervous affair that remained drawn at full time. Even after extra time, the sides could not be separated. As determined by the Féile rules at the time, the county title was shared, and both teams were set to advance to the national finals.

A Twist in the Tale and Unwavering Pride

However, in a disappointing turn, Galway GAA later reversed the decision, forcing both teams into a play-off as only one team could now advance to the national finals. Played out in Oughterard, the game was level with just five minutes remaining, before Salthill-Knocknacarra ultimately sealed a two-point win with two late frees.

While the squad is understandably extremely disappointed to miss out on the experience of travelling to the national finals later this month, we are all incredibly proud of their achievements throughout the entire Féile journey. Their remarkable efforts brought the County Féile title (shared) to Maigh Cuilinn for the first time, a truly historic accomplishment for the club.

Looking Ahead: League Challenges Remain

The squad still has five league games to play in the U15 Division 1 League, so there is still plenty to look forward to. A great effort continues to be put in by everyone involved. Led by Dermot Cullen and his dedicated coaching team, there is strong belief in the squad’s potential, and they will undoubtedly push hard for the remainder of the season.
