U8s Season of Fun, Development, and Role Models

Our Under 8 boys have been back in action since the end of March 2025, bringing energy and enthusiasm to the pitch each week. Their season kicked off with great participation in the St. Patrick’s Day parade, setting a vibrant tone for the year.

This year, our U8s are guided by a dedicated coaching team including Olivia Traynor, Ronan Purcell, Niki Earls, Rob Molloy, Paul Audley, David Flaherty, and Spencer Perkins.

Training takes place every Saturday morning from 11:45 AM to 1:00 PM at the pitch. So far this season, the U8s have already showcased their skills in a blitz in Killannin. This event featured a brilliant night of football, with a mix of our Under 8s and 9 teams, including three Maigh Cuilinn teams.

To encourage great effort at training, the U8s have introduced a “Player of the Week” initiative. Two signed footballs, one by the Maigh Cuilinn Senior Team and another by the Galway Senior Team, are awarded each week to the two children who demonstrate the most effort, allowing them to take a signed ball home for the week.

The U8s have also been fortunate to have some of our senior players visit their training sessions, offering encouraging words to the young lads. Aidan Claffey, Fionn McDonagh, and James McLoughlin have all shared their insights. There was great excitement for our Under 8s at the official launch of Cairde Páirc Mhaigh Cuilinn, where they had the chance to chat with both David Wynne and Dessie Conneely, even ending up in the Connacht Tribune with the senior players.

We are incredibly fortunate to have such amazing role models within our parish. For further information about the U8s, please contact Olivia at 087 924 1760.
